The history of the Hajj as a religious pilgrimage for Moslems dates back some 1400 hundred years. Many writings show that it has been used by other religions dating back for centuries beyond that time. Tradition has that it was first established by Abraham as a place of worship. Through the years it fell into the hands of pagan worshipers, until the 7^th century when Mohamed returned it to the worship of the one God.

The magnificent shroud that covers the Kabba, is replaced each year and is covered with the verses of the Koran in 24 K gold thread, all hand stitched, and weighs 1 ton.

Only a Moslem can enter the holy city of Mecca to fulfill one of the five pillars of faith. Certain rituals and dress codes for the Hajj do apply, so it is important to check with your Mosque for the facts.
